The MSE Scrap Chopper is a precision product, manufactured to the same high standards as is expensive tooling. Many customers ask why we hold such close tolerances on a machine that "will do nothing more than chop up scrap metal". Our response is that tooling which pierces, shapes, and forms metal is expected to perform over a long period of time with precision and minimal downtime. Our Scrap Choppers are working on the same materials in the same environments and are also expected to perform to a very high standard with minimal downtime. Therefore, we must manufacture our choppers to the same standards as those applied to expensive tooling. |
Because our Scrap Choppers are operated by pneumatic cylinders, we have some inherent advantages over mechanically operated scrap choppers. Some advantages are: |
We do not consume machine energy to actuate our scrap chopper. Therefore, your machine experiences less wear and tear and is not subject to off-center loads. |
Because we are controlling an air cylinder through an electric valve, we can equip the scrap chopper with a multi-stroke counter. This gives the option to cut scrap on a predetermined number of
|
machine strokes, allowing the machine to cycle anywhere from 1 to 99 times between chopper actuations. As a result, less air is consumed and chopper blade life is extended. |

We can completely detach the scrap chopper from the machine, mount it on a stand, and run it completely independent of the production machine. |
Finally, for high speed applications, we can use a timer in lieu of a counter to control actuations of the scrap chopper. |
As an added benefit, critical component parts of the scrap chopper are made of A2 Tool Steel and are heat treated to 60-62 rockwell. Included in these parts is the moving blade which has two cutting edges. As one edge dulls, simply rotating the blade 180 degrees exposes a new sharp edge. The fixed blade has four cutting edges giving the option of rotating the blade 4 times between sharpenings. Coupled with the fact that the cutting edges are held to close tolerances, these characteristics make this scrap chopper the best in its class. |
