YOUR PALLET DECOILER CAN BE A PILE OF RUBBISH WITHIN 3 TO 5 YEARS UNLESS YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING FEATURES PRESENT IN YOUR SYSTEM: |
Magneto Resistive Speed Control: Our speed control potentiameter (which controls the speed of the motor as the coil drum is pulled along its horizontal shaft) is a "contactless" device with no electrical contacts to oxidize or wear out. Its superior design, is unaffected by environmental factors such as humidity, shock and vibration. Unlike our competition, which uses a speed pot that has contacts, our system will last indefinately as it is better suited to survive the harsh environments of the metal stamping industry. |

Amphenol Connections: All electrical connections to the motor, magneto resistive speed pot, control panel, and operator control box are quick disconnect type twist lock connectors. Whereas our competitors hard wire and/or solder connections, we provide quick disconnect connections for maintenace purposes. Should a failure occur, you need not get an electrician to troubleshoot the problem on the spot. Simply unplug the system and replace it to minimize downtime. While the machine is producing parts, you send the unit back to the factory for repair or work on repairing it in your spare time.

Constant Force Spring Tension: Material flow is controlled by constant spring tension. This constant tension, eleminates problems associated with counter weight systems. Counter weight systems need constant readjustment as coils are used up and do not perform well in applications where long feed lengths are the norm. Spring tension, however, requires no adjustment and it cushions the blow delivered by long feed lengths. In so doing, the system creates an environment for smoother pay-out and greater material control reducing the possibility of material kinks, coil end damage, and mis-feeds. |
Counterbalanced Coil Drum Adjustment: Vertical Adjustment of the Coil Drum as coils are used up is a snap. Simply loosen the Fluted Plastic Knob and raise or lower the coil drum assembly. The weight of the entire assembly is counterbalanced, eliminating all possibility of the unit free falling and causing personal injury or damage to the unit.
|
Generous Stack Height Capacity: Our standard Coil Tamer will accomodate 42" of material stack height. Unlike other pallet decoilers, we do not use a dancer arm or telescoping tube design which limits stack height capability. Our stack height capacity is limited only by the length of the vertical post we utilize. |
Safe Reliable Vertical Ajustment from coil to coil: The vertical adjustment of our Coil Drum Assembly is designed to eliminate all dangers associated with this adjustment. The MSE Coil Drum Assembly slides over a 6' length of tubing. It is contained within the 6' length and cannot separate from the tube. Competitive models use telescoping tubes which will separate during adjustment if care is not taken. When this happens, the system (being top heavy) can topple over, turning the motor on causing the platform (loaded with material) to spin out of control. |

Heavy Duty Construction: The frame is made of 1/8" wall rectangular tubing with 1/2" thick steel mounting plates for the motor and support casters. The dc motor and gear reducer drive a #50 chain sprocket which is attached to a 1/2 thick blanchard ground platform via (5) 1/2-13 bolts. The platform is held concentric by a 2" diameter center shaft. The casters are rated at 3500# each (there are 3 of them in a triangular format) giving a total weight capacity of 10,500#. The casters are a ball bearing type design which withstands both vertical loads from the weight of the steel and side loads which is generated as the platform rotates. Their superior construction require no maintenance. |

Flexibility in Coil Drum Adjustment: In addition to the vertical adjustment of the coil drum assembly, angular adjustment of the coil drum is also possible to meet certain requirements. Some materials are very rigid and must be held in position to avoid harmonic motion generated by the stock feeder. For these applications, we recommend locking the coil drum at the appropriate angle to best serve material pay-out. This is accomplished simply by loosening a 1/4" socket screw, rotating the coil drum to the desired position, and retightening the socket screw. Other material are not so rigid, and may run better when the coil drum is left free to float freely. Simply removing a cam follower allows the coil drum to float. In either case, the Coil Tamer is flexible enough that it can adapt to either situation. |

CW/CCW Rotation Direction: The direction of the platform is controlled by a toggle switch. Simply selecting clockwise or counter-clockwise via the switch gives the desired result. Some competitive systems require you to reposition the motor whenever you change rotation direction. Because the MSE Coil Tamer is chain driven, simply changing the rotation of the motor via the switch is all that is required. |
Smooth material payout: The cable pulley design which controls the magneto resistive speed control is designed to maximize the capabilities of the dc drive. The ratios have been engineered to take full advantage of the linearity of the dc function. The end result is a smoother transition from the minimum to maximum speed range. |
Emergency Stop Circuit: In the event that material flow is interrupted due to a mechanical snag, the Coil Tamer will sense that there is a problem and shut down. The Coil Tamer also provides an output to the production machine control to shut it down as well. All that is required is a two wire hook-up to the top stop circuit of the machine. This connection is made via a twist lock connection to the Coil Tamer control panel.

Coil Lock Option (photo at right): Our adjustable Coil Lock is simple and effective. It's purpose is to secure the top coil to the one below it so that as the top coil gets smaller and lighter, it cannot pull off-center and fall into the inside diameter of the coil beneath it. It's simple design has eliminated the need for spring tension and three legged construction which are more difficult to work with. The spring tension in competitive systems must be overcome by the operator in order to install the device. This is not only cumbersome to work with, but more physically demanding as the force required to overcome the spring pressure, may cause muscle strain and/or back injury. With the MSE Coil Lock, there are no springs to overcome. Simply loosen the the knob, collapse the length of the coil lock, insert it into the ID of the top coil, expand the length of the coil lock into the ID of the Coil, and tighten the knob. A loose fit is all that is required to keep the coil in proper alignment with the one beneath it.
|

Minimum Floor Space: The footprint of the Coil Tamer varies with the model selected. The footprint is predicated on the diameter of the platform required. Platform diameters range from 36" to 72" in one inch increments. The footprint width dimension will be the diameter of the platform while the footprint length will be the diameter of the platform plus 8 inches.

Rugged Heat Treated Steel or Phenolic Non-Marring Coil Drums: Our standard Coil Drum is made of steel tubing which is heat treated for durability and longevity. It is intended for use on all applications where potential marking of the material due to contact with the coil drum is acceptable. For applications where delicate materials are being processed and marking of any kind is unacceptable, we offer coil drums that will not blemish the material. This option eliminates the need to use rubber tape to protect material from damage due to contact with the coil drum. |
